Undici Restaurant - Monmouth County
Now you can remember how to plug into your navigation system the address of Rumson's hottest Italian restaurant. I had the opportunity to first visit Undici on November 18, 2007 and since then I have visited the restaurant a number of time to see how it has evolved. I have come to appreciate the hard work, quality food and genius behind Victor Rallo's vision for Undici. Undici is the best place for authentic Italian cuisine in Monmouth County. This is not a typical Italian restaurant and not to be compared to Victor's popular Red Bank Restaurant called Basil T's. Basil T's is a great brew pub that has won numerous beer making awards and it always has a great local crowd. Best Pizza In New JerseyTwo years ago, when Undici owner Victor Rallo opened up his restaurant with the intention of recreating traditional Naples pizza, the best pizza in the world. Unsure on how he was going to do this, he partnered with Anthony Mangieri of Una Pizza Napoletana to help put pizza alla Napoletana in NJ. They have be acclaimed as making the Best Pizza in NJ. Mangieri had become world famous for being one of the best pizza makers in the country and Undici Restaurant had the chance to work with him before his move from New York City to San Francisco. The first step? A wood only burning oven to create la pizza Napoletana. "You can't make, in my opinion, the same flavor with coal or with gas," says Mangieri. "There's nothing beautiful about it. The heat from a coal oven is not gentle. It's very dry, it's very overpowering. " With a pizza oven that runs solely on wood, the two pizza experts hunkered down to create the best pizza of New Jersey. Two weeks and 500 pizzas later, they succeeded. The sought after pizza Napoletana finally came to New Jersey, topped off with the famous Undici sauce and bufala mozzarella. Undici RestaurantWhen you first arrive you are immediately taken back by the cozy Italian design and chic architecture of the restaurant. The investment to renovate the former Hook, Line and Sinker Restaurant has to be well over a million dollars. The waiting area has a fireplace to keep winter guests warm and overall, I give the restaurant high marks for design, lighting and overall style. What an amazing transformation from its former design. In 2009 the restaurant made some smart changes not to the decor but to the pricing. They now are reaping the rewards of adjusting their menu and pricing since the place is buzzing with activity. The bar has become a popular destination to meet locals and eat in a more casual setting. Dinner and Lunch at Undici RestaurantI suggest that you visit Undici for lunch or dinner and experience something very special in authentic regional Italian cuisine. The chef is a true "Italian" chef and his creations have "wowed" my taste buds. It's all in the details: the bread, olive oil and prosciutto can't be missed. If its a nice day you can even sit outside and eat on their comfortable rustic tables.
